The Soldier Marathon is a marathon distance foot race of 26.2 miles.
Ft. Benning course
The runners will start at the National Infantry Museum and will run a 7.5 mile loop through Fort Benning before returning to the National Infantry Museum. Starting on the Avenue of Flags at the National Infantry Museum the runners will run on Legacy Way alongside the parking lot of the National Infantry Museum to enter Ft. Benning Road and then run in a southerly direction on Ft. Benning Road. After passing mile marker 1 on Ft. Benning Road the runners will pass through the main checkpoint gate. Runners will pass mile marker 2 before the intersection of 10th Division Road and Ft. Benning Road, at which point they will turn right on 10th Division Road. Runners will run westerly on 10th Division Road for about 0.3 of a mile before turning left onto the paved bike trail running alongside 10th Division Road. Runners will run the entire length of the bike path and pass mile marker 3 before turning left onto Edwards Street.
Continuing on Edwards Street the runners will run past the jump towers before turning left onto the Burr Street. Runners will run on Burr Street past mile marker 4 until turning left on Gaudette Street, remaining on Gaudette until it intersects with Ingersoll Street. Runners will turn left on Ingersoll Street and run a short distance before turning right onto an unnamed road that runs alongside the Benning Club to Morrison Road. Runners will then make an immediate right on Morrison Road and will run east on Morrison Road until turning right on Lumpkin Road, passing mile marker 5 on Lumpkin Street near house #209.
Runners will proceed for about 0.2 of a mile in a southerly direction before making a u-turn in the median cut-through immediately prior to Running Avenue. The runners will now run in a northerly direction on Lumpkin Road crossing over 1st Division Road/Sigerfoos Road, Baltzell Avenue, Vibbert Avenue, Marne Road and mile marker 6. Runners will remain on Lumpkin Road and run down the hill towards Custer Road. Turning left on Custer Road the runners run to the entrance on the RiverWalk on Custer Road behind the National Infantry Museum and run on the RiverWalk past mile marker 7 to the back of the National Infantry Museum, then enter the RiverWalk at South Lumpkin Road at Oxbow Meadows.
After completing the first 7.5 miles of the race course on Ft. Benning and returning to the National Infantry Museum, the runners will then run on the RiverWalk past mile marker 8 and past the Oxbow Golf Course to Water Works Road. Runners will run towards the Water Works Facility passing mile markers 9 and 10. Marathoners will split from the half marathoners by running northerly on the RiverWalk passing mile markers 11, 12 and 13 as they runs towards Rotary Park. Upon reaching Rotary Park, runners will leave the RiverWalk by running through the parking lot and using the temporary RiverWalk path towards Lumpkin Road.
Runners will turn left on Lumpkin Road and run approximately 0.2 mile and pass mile marker 14 before returning to the RiverWalk. Runners will pass mile marker 15 as they run northerly on the RiverWalk and leave the RiverWalk at the fountain behind the Trade Center to run on Bay Street for .2 of a mile. Runners will run westerly over the Dillingham Bridge and turn north to run on the Phenix City RiverWalk for less than a mile. Runners will pass mile maker 16 shortly after entering the Phenix City RiverWalk.
Runners will cross the 14th Street Pedestrian Bridge and use the ramp to continue north on the Columbus RiverWalk, passing mile marker 17, before turning around after passing the TSYS building near the Railroad Trestle crossing over the Riverwalk. Runners will now run south on the RiverWalk passing mile markers 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 to the intersection of the Water Works Road. After exiting the Riverwalk Runners will then turn left in front of the golf course to run on the public road alongside the Oxbow Golf Course to South Lumpkin Road, then turn right on South Lumpkin Road and run south on South Lumpkin Road to the entrance to the National Infantry Museum, then turn left to run in front of the National Infantry Museum past mile marker 26 and turn right to run the Avenue of Flags alongside the National Infantry Museum to complete the 26.2 mile course.
